Christmas Gifts

This Christmas I realized how utterly ridiculous gifts have become. I don't see why we give each other expensive presents for no other reason than just because we have to.

Gift cards are totally useless. I hate them. Why pay $20 for something that is ultimately worth less than a $20 dollar bill since you are restricted to spending it at just one place? Not to mention that you ultimately have to spend your own money to fully utilize your "gift" since you have to get something more than $20 to actually use up the card and that extra money comes out of your pocket. When I see a gift card I know that it is an empty gesture that was only given to satisfy the social obligation to spend money on people for Christmas.

Gift cards < Money < Expensive present < Thoughtful cheap gift < Handmade free gift

I see Christmas as a time to show others that you love and cherish them. When I see people get others random gifts then I know they don't care about that person enough to actually sit down and think of something unique and creative to give them instead. They don't care enough to put the effort into something special. That, to me, is worse than getting someone nothing at all.

New techy stuff

I have been playing around with some new geeky stuff lately.

I have been addicted to Twitter for a few weeks now. I have no idea why it is so cool, but so far I just can't go a whole day without adding a few posts on what I am doing. I have it linked to my mobile phone so I simply send a text message and it gets instantly added to Twitter. Easy.

Microsoft's folder synchronization tool Live Mesh is pretty cool too. It allows you to keep your files synced across all of your computers. It also serves as an online storage for your files. I haven't seen Google's cloud storage offering yet, but so far this one is pretty slick.

Gmail Logo Found on Store Sign

I was driving home today when I saw this gem:

That M there at the beginning is an exact copy of the Gmail logo. I thought that was pretty striking, but what makes it even better is that this store specializes in providing mailing supplies and shipping services.

Is it legal? Who knows. Pretty cool nonetheless.

Graduation

As of today I am an official Lamar University graduate. I am a professional. Thats pretty scary huh?

So hows this for awesome: I graduated with a 3.37 GPA. If I put that as the first bullet point of my resume it will be:

1. 3.37 GPA

Yeah thats right. I have a 1337 GPA. All that time not doing homework and making Cs in my basics finally paid off! :-)
